For these next few assignments, we've been asked to create two handouts for two separate stakeholders for OU Recruitment Services. Everything we create is to be done via Adobe Photoshop, which was a nice change of pace since InDesign has been our primary software thus far.
Photoshop is fantastic for the manipulation of photos. I will continue to prefer InDesign because it's more layout based. However, I understand the importance of Photoshop and how it complements the other apps within the Adobe Suite.
When working with Photoshop, it's vital to keep in mind what sort of finished product you'd like to create. My relatively little experience with the program has taught me that it can be difficult to undo mistakes if you're unsure of what you're doing. I found myself starting over and using 'undo' quite often. Nonetheless, making mistakes has also greatly contributed to my overall knowledge of how to perform certain tasks and generate a design that I can be proud of.
With this particular design of mine, I decided to target male and female transfer students first. My goal was to demonstrate that OU students, faculty and staff are a family. If one makes the decision to transfer to the University of Oklahoma and finish out his/her degree here, they'd have the privilege in being apart of something special.
This is also why I featured this text on the back of the handout: Because it's not about where you start. It's about how you finish.
This was something that I remember hearing frequently during the college selection process. Whether you start at a community college or at some other university, it won't matter as long you reach your desired destination. For prospective transfer students, I want them to understand that OU can give that to them. Also, the postcard feels on-brand with something that OU Recruitment Services would produce.
Lastly, the lines on the back of the handout provides space for current students (interns or whomever) to write a personal note to students they're hoping to reach. This adds a more intimate touch, and it shows that a genuine interest in the student exists.
