Everything you need to know about writing newsletters

As any well-established organization knows, newsletters are at the heart of spreading information to a variety of publics. There are, in fact, about four types of newsletter that every public relations professional should be aware of. They are the following: company newsletters, consumer newsletters, organization newsletters, and school newsletters. Each of these serves a different audience, but the goal is always to inform and/or provide stories that contribute to a group's overall message.

When designing anything, especially a newsletter, readability is especially important. You can actively keep this in mind by selecting fonts that are easy to read. Font and background colors can also help to make pertinent information stand out.

Additionally, make sure you're using photos to break up the text. A page full of words alone is daunting, which decreases the likelihood of your audiences proceeding with the newsletters. Photos are also an added complement because they provide a visual illustration regarding the topic(s) of your newsletter. Give people something their eyes will be drawn towards.

There's so much that goes into designing a newsletter-- enough to warrant several blog posts about the topic. However, creating catchy headlines and subheadings is one of the most crucial. These entice your readers to pay attention to the information you're sending out. Therefore, use interesting headings to garner, then keep, their attention.

I've attached pictures below of two well designed newsletter. They drastically differ from one another, but both employ bold images and cohesive fonts.
