Newsletters are one of the primary ways in which various organizations and companies communicate with their publics. They're used to make announcements, to share photos/videos and other information. For this particular assignment, I selected Johnson & Johnson as my company to design a newsletter for. Their media center contains a host of information about new programs they're implementing and other happenings throughout the world.
When it comes to the design aspects of a newsletter, one of the most important tips to keep in mind is the use of images. You need to keep your audience engaged if you want them to deem your newsletter worthwhile, which means including just the right amount of vibrant images and interesting headlines. Additionally, strong pull quotes will draw the eyes of the reader.
Pull quotes and headlines are significant when designing a newsletter. However, there are other components that should be incorporated. From my perspective, bylines are crucial. Bylines break newsletters down into bite-sized pieces of information and guide your readers.
Also, the layout for your newsletter should be unique without drawing attention from the information itself. There are several sites here that you can visit to gain inspiration. Ultimately, using grids within InDesign to make sure that your design is balanced and well-spaced is one of the best ways to ensure that your layout is appropriate.
